DAY ONE: “Risk Assessment Workshop – It’s More Than a JSA!”
Thursday, October 26, 2017 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Presented by Pam Walaski, CSP, CHMM – Director, Health and
Safety – GAI Consultants, Inc., Pittsburgh PA
- Discuss the major components of the ANSI/ASSE Z690 Risk Management Framework and describe how to apply each of the components in their organization.
- Demonstrate an understanding of at least four common risk assessment tools as well as their advantages and applicable situations.
- Create a risk matrix with risk factors and definitions that is customized to their organization and utilize the matrix in the risk assessment of two common work tasks in their organization, including risk identification, risk analysis, and risk treatment.
- Identify their organization’s top five risks and discuss how the application of risk management can demonstrate reduction to an acceptable risk level.
DAY TWO – “Combustible Dust – Managing the Process”

Presented by Harold Grossman, CSP, CHMM, Senior Consulting Engineer, Fauske & Associates, LLC.
This presentation will present a 3-phase, step by step approach on how to manage the combustible dust hazards in your workplace. This risk management based approach is based on National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards will provide a roadmap. The seminar will discuss the various laboratory tests that need to be considered and how to interpret the data. In addition, once it’s been determined that the dust is combustible then a Dust Hazard Analysis (DHA) needs to be conducted to determine risks involved. Controls to prevent combustible dust explosions will also be covered.
